Jessica Watson is an Australian sailor who, at age 16, became the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop, and unassisted around the world. Her 210-day journey covered 23,000 nautical miles and inspired millions.
Early Start
Jessica began sailing at age 8 and was determined to circumnavigate the globe by age 16. She spent years preparing, including a solo voyage from Queensland to Sydney at age 15.
Challenges Overcome
Jessica faced enormous skepticism from critics who said she was too young. During her voyage, she survived seven knockdowns (where the boat rolls over), massive storms, and 40-foot waves. She also had to repair equipment and manage sleep deprivation alone.
