Biography
Sergeant Alvin York was the most decorated American soldier of WWI. A pacifist who became a warrior, he single-handedly captured 132 German soldiers.
Early Start
York grew up hunting in Tennessee and was an expert marksman. He initially sought conscientious objector status but came to believe fighting was justified.
Challenges Overcome
York struggled with his faith and the morality of killing. He reconciled his beliefs and became a hero, then returned home to help his community.
