Biography

Anthony Joseph Foyt Jr. is a legendary American former auto racing driver, widely regarded as one of the greatest in history. He is the first of only four drivers to win the Indianapolis 500 four times and is the only driver to have won the Indy 500, the Daytona 500, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. His career spanned several decades and various racing disciplines, cementing his status as a motorsport icon.

Early Start

A.J. Foyt's father was a mechanic who raced midget cars, and he built his son a race car with a lawnmower engine at age three. Foyt began his racing career in midgets as a teenager and quickly moved up the ranks, showing immense talent from a young age.

Challenges Overcome

Throughout his long career, Foyt survived several life-threatening crashes, including a violent crash at Riverside in 1965 that left him with a broken back and other serious injuries, and another at Road America in 1990 that severely damaged his legs and feet.
