Boy with very long name
Chinese culture; consequences of tradition
"Tikki Tikki Tembo" is a cautionary tale about the importance of short names, told through the story of a boy with a very long name who falls into a well. The book's repetitive and rhythmic text makes it an engaging read-aloud for young children, helping them to develop phonological awareness and memory skills.
Arlene Mosel (1921-1996) was an American children's librarian and author. She is best known for her two award-winning picture books, "Tikki Tikki Tembo" and "The Funny Little Woman," both of which were illustrated by Blair Lent. Mosel was an associate professor of library science at Case Western Reserve University.
