Gerald McDermott (January 31, 1941 – December 26, 2012) was an American filmmaker, creator of children's picture books, and an expert on mythology. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he began his career in animation before transitioning to children's literature, where he became known for his vibrant and graphic illustrations that often drew from folklore and mythology from around the world. His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Caldecott Medal for "Arrow to the Sun."
