Biography
Joshua Slocum was the first person to sail single-handedly around the world. His voyage from 1895-1898 in the sloop Spray covered 46,000 miles.
Early Start
Slocum went to sea at age 14 and became a ship captain by 25. He rebuilt the derelict Spray himself and set off on his historic voyage at age 51.

Slocum was nearly broke when he started his voyage. He faced storms, pirates, and loneliness but completed his journey through seamanship and determination.
