Donald J. Sobol (1924-2012) was an American writer best known for his beloved Encyclopedia Brown series. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II before earning a B.A. from Oberlin College. His prolific career included writing for various magazines and newspapers, but he achieved lasting fame with the creation of the boy detective Leroy "Encyclopedia" Brown in 1963.
